Malin Head

Malin Head

Malin Head is Ireland's most northerly point.  As you drive towards Malin Head, the road climbs to a viewpoint and continues on to a 19th century signal tower.  From here, you can take a walk along the cliff top and experience the rugged coastal landscape, lovely beaches and breath-taking scenery.  The area is steeped in history and satisfies all hobbies and interests, including walking, fishing, swimming, photography, painting, studying rock formations and is near Inishowen's five magnificent golf courses, the nearest being Ballyliffin Championship Links.  From the moment you enter the Malin Head area via the coastal road, you will find the largest sand dunes in Europe.  Deep sea diving enthusiasts will also find plenty to tempt them here.

Malin Head is a favourite spot for bird watchers and is one of the few places in Europe where you may hear the illusive 'Corncrake'.  It is also an ideal vantage point from which to view the autumnal movements of seabirds such as gannets and shearwater on their epic voyages.  Met Eireann, the National Weather Service of Ireland, has a prominent base at Malin Head.
