Easkey

Tir Na Hoige Caravan Park

Easkey is a small coastal village community located in West Sligo on the R297 off the N59 running from Ballisodare to Ballina.  This is a beautiful location with a famous salmon fishing river, two surfing breaks known throughout the surfing world as Easkey left and Easkey right, one on either side of the well known land mark Roslea Castle in the Easkey River estuary.  It is a village of natural beauty; peaceful and quaint with beautiful walks and cycle routes flanked on the North side by the Atlantic Ocean and on the South side by the Ox Mountains.  The area is full of legends that the locals will be delighted to relate to, explain local features such as the ‘Split Rock’, an ice age relic just outside the village.

We have a lovely Heritage Centre in the village and if anyone wishes to travel back in time the curator will be only too delighted to oblige. She will also help you if you wish to trace your ancestors.

We have some lovely eateries, Coast Café, Chipper and the Grub Hub and some places to down the black stuff if you wish. Irish music abounds and you will not get through the week without an Irish Session. There is a thriving local community with a large new community centre including computer teaching facilities, a new fully equipped gym and fitness centre and kitchens for a meals-on wheels service.

Easkey was the ‘Top Place to Visit’ in a survey done by Newstalk on the FM radio station. The movie “Calvary” written by John Michael McDonagh with Easkey in mind, has been filmed here and will be out this year. The cast includes some famous names such as Brendan Gleeson, Pat Short, Chris O’Dowd, Aidan Gillen. So if you do decide to visit be sure of a big cead mile failte, a thousand welcomes.
